It comes from your African American heritage. I'm sure it can be confusing, but more from general identity issues...."Who am I exactly?"...rather than practical ones such as your hair. Suggest you go to a salon where they either specialize in African American hair or have a pretty large Black clientele, and get some professional advice. There are all kinds of things you can do to/for your hair, if you haven't explored it you'll be amazed! If you go to a fairly large salon you can almost always find a knowledgeable hair specialist who has experience with your type of hair and can give you good advice. Be prepare to be amazed at all the possibilities!
