Scar - white hair?

My mare has a small white patch on her hind leg just above her hoof. She had it when I bought her and the previous owners said it was scarring from an injury...I looks a little out of place as all her legs are solid black. Anyway I can get the hair to grow black again?

Thanks

If you had treated the original wound you could have uses a product called "Schreiner's" or "Schreibers", it'a an herbal solution (expensive) but you have a guarantee of the roginal color hair growing back. I've used in on minor woulds and deep wounds, it works! Ask your vet first but maybe you could shave the hair on that spot and try this product. As long as you don't actually cut the sking I don't see any harm.

You can't get the hair to grow back black. Are you sure that it is a scar? From the picture it just looks like a white marking. Just like the normal type that most horses have.

The hair won't grow back again black. It looks like a regular marking, tbh, in the first place.

If you're going to show her, just spray over that with black coat spray, and no problem there.

theres no way that you can get it black again. you can try and buy some kind of like show paint stuff and paint it on there but it wont last.

Nice mare. any way it looks like a white marking in the photo. I have a bay mare that has a white spot like that in the coronet band (born with it) It doesn't distract from your horses looks at all.

Scar - white hair?

I agree that it looks like a normal marking. Is there scar tissue on the skin underneath that you can feel or see?

It won't return to its normal color, but you can blacken it if it bothers you.

It doesn't look like a scar to me, it looks just like a very small coronet band. If it is just a marking, not a scar, then you don't really need to cover it up, but if you really want to, here are some tips:

a) Use waterproof mascara to cover it up (just paint it on gently)

b) dab hoof polish on top of the marking

c) just let it go, or even you baby powder to make it larger, so it does look like a regular marking

d) contact the original owners, and make SURE that it is/isn't a scar.

I hope this helps!

P.S. Cute horse!!!

That doesn't look like a scar. It looks like a normal white marking on her feet.

Scar - white hair?

I got a rescue mare not long ago and the hair above her nose is white from scaring. Who ever had her had to of kept her halter to tight on her. The hair in the area is thinner then the rest of her hair like only half of it grew back but white instead of red, and you can see the scaring underneath.

Is her foot like this as well? Ask your farrier about it he/she may know a way to cover it up or something or call and question the vet about it... good luck!!!

pretty mare. that looks like a marking.... im not sure how black hair can turn white while the skin is scarring but my mare is a bay and she has a long blonde-ish strime going down her leg where she cut herself... but that looks like a little coronary sock

Scar - white hair?

I have seen plenty of scars and other horse injuries and in my opinion, that is not one.

That looks like a normal white marking (we call them peds - you know like smaller than a sock). I would not worry about it at all.

Scar - white hair?

i dont think it will grow back
